Pray This Way

Privacy Policy

Last updated 23 September 2026

Pray This Way is a prayer app. What people bring to it — illness, grief, a struggling marriage, a child they are worried about — is as private as anything a person writes down. This page explains exactly what we hold, why we hold it, and how to make us delete it.

The short version. We collect what is needed to write your prayers and deliver them when you asked for them. We do not sell your information, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not send your prayers to any analytics or crash-reporting service — we do not use those services at all. You can delete your account, and everything in it, from inside the app.

What we collect

Your account

Your first name, so prayers can speak to you by name, and your email address and a password. Passwords are stored only as a one-way hash — we cannot read yours. If you sign in with Apple, we receive whatever Apple passes on, which may be a private relay address rather than your real one.

How you pray

Your denomination, whether you prefer traditional or conversational wording, anything you tell us about your life so prayers can fit it, and the first names of people you ask us to pray for. That last one is worth being plain about: if you add "Mom" or a friend's first name, we store it so it can appear in your prayers.

What you ask for

The situations you pick, and anything you type in your own words. We keep the prayers written for you so you can find them again in your history and your saved prayers.

Delivering your prayer

The time of day you chose, your time zone, and — if you turn notifications on — a device token that lets us send the notification, which platform your phone is, and whether notifications are currently allowed. We use that last one to stop promising you a prayer at 7:15 that your phone will never show.

Your subscription

Whether your subscription is active, and an identifier from our subscription provider. Payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google. We never see your card details.

How your prayers are used

When you ask for a prayer that we do not already have, the words you wrote are sent to our AI provider so a prayer can be written for them. The provider processes the request and does not use it to train their models. Nothing you write is used to build a profile of you or shown to anyone else.

When you write in your own words, we also send a short, general note about you — the season of life you chose, the things you told us are true of your life, and the relationship of the person you are praying for, such as "their son". We never send anyone's name, yours or theirs. Names are added to the prayer here, after it has been written.

If you ask for a prayer to be read aloud, the words of that prayer are sent to a speech provider so a voice can read them. That happens only when you press play — never for a prayer you have simply been shown. The recording is kept for a while so playing it again is instant, and removed once it has gone unplayed for a month.

If you have notifications on, part of your daily prayer appears in the notification itself, which means it can show on your lock screen. If you would rather it did not, iOS lets you hide previews for a single app in Settings → Notifications → Pray This Way → Show Previews.

Sharing a prayer

When you share a prayer, we put a copy of it on a web page and give you a link. Anyone who has that link can read the prayer without an account — that is what makes it shareable — so please treat it the way you would treat the prayer itself. The link is a long random one that cannot be guessed and is not listed anywhere, search engines are asked not to index it, and it stops working after 30 days, at which point the copy is deleted.

The copy says exactly what you read, including any name you had entered for the person you were praying for. If that matters to you, it is worth a moment's thought before you send it. Deleting your account takes down every link you have shared.

Who else is involved

A small number of services do specific jobs for us. Each receives only what that job needs.

That is the whole list. We do not sell or rent your information, we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers, and we do not use advertising or tracking software.

Deleting everything

Open Profile in the app and choose to delete your account. It removes your account and the data attached to it — your prayers, your history, the people you pray for, and your devices.

Cancelling a subscription is separate and is done through your Apple or Google account, because that is where the payment lives.

If you would rather ask us, write to the address below and we will do it for you.

Keeping it safe

Everything between the app and our servers travels over an encrypted connection. Your sign-in token is held in your phone's secure storage, not in ordinary app storage. Passwords are hashed. Access to the servers is limited to the people who run the service.

No service can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can say is that we collect as little as the app can work with, and that your prayers are deliberately kept out of every system where they would not need to be.

Children

Pray This Way is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If this changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and say so in the app. Continuing to use Pray This Way after a change means the updated policy applies.
